How long does it take to get a dental implant?
The entire process of finishing a dental implant can take 4-18 months, depending on the surgical site, your need for bone grafting, and the complexities of your case. However in most cases, we can provide a temporary tooth immediately if this is necessary, so there is no time spent with a missing tooth.
Will I need to have bone grafting?
This is a complex question and usually we recommend minor to major bone grafting prior to dental implant surgery. Even prior to the bone grafting, the extraction of the tooth/teeth require precision as the healing is much more predictable if the tooth is removed with minimal bone loss. A consultation with one of our doctors will reveal the particulars of your specific case. We understand each patient is unique. So, we tailor treatments accordingly.
Will I miss work?
Plan to take the rest of the day off following your implant procedure. Most patients return to work the next day with very little discomfort. If a large bone graft is performed with your implant this could cause some facial swelling which may require you to miss work.
Do dental implants hurt?
No, dental implant surgery is performed under your choice of a variety of anesthesia options, and the surgical site is always kept numb during the procedure. Later in the day, as the anesthesia wears off, you may start to have some mild discomfort but nothing that can’t be controlled with over-the-counter medications.
