Dr. Blair Ota, MD, DDS

Dr. Ota graduated from USC Dental School in 1974 with honors (Omicron Kappa Upsilon). He completed his three-year Oral Surgery Residency at the Los Angeles County+University of Southern California Medical Center. He then pursued a medical degree at Hahnemann University for the Health Sciences which placed him with a small group of Oral Surgeons in the country who have a dental and medical degree. Dr. Ota graduated from medical school with the highest honors (Alpha Omega Alpha). He then completed his internship in General Surgery at the University of California at San Diego. In 1990, Dr. Ota took a one- year leave of absence to complete a Fellowship in Aesthetic Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center, and Stanford University under Dr. Brent Kennedy, Dr. Doug Sinn, Dr. Bruce Epker, and Dr. Stephen Schendel.

Because of his expertise, Dr. Ota became a member of the Advisory Board of The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He was selected to serve a 6-year term as a National Board Examiner for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons who wish to become Board Certified. He was accepted as a member of the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons which is the “facial arm” of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.

Dr. Ota is a General Anesthesia Evaluator for the State of California Board of Dental Examiners. He evaluates the safety of oral surgery offices throughout Orange County. He currently is an Attending Staff at the LAC+USC Medical Center training Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residents. He was the past Chairman of the Hoag Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at Hoag Presbyterian Hospital in Irvine and Newport Beach. Currently maintains surgical privileges at Hoag Hospital and Faces Institute in Pacific Palisades.

Dr. Ota volunteers at the California Dental Association “Care” events providing oral surgery to disadvantaged individuals in Orange and San Diego County. He raised his five children in Irvine where he has volunteered his time as a youth coach for girls fastpitch softball for the past 27 years and as a high school coach at Northwood High and Beckman High for 11 years.
